SWAPS is an early forecasting system established in 2019 to reduce material and moral damage caused by extreme weather conditions. Nowadays, Swaps continues to work in the offices of ITU Çekirdek in ARI-3 Teknokent.
The Severe Weather Analysis and Prediction System (SWAPS) was established at the Istanbul Technical University in 2019. SWAPS’s mission is typically the development of techniques for the computer-based numerical prediction of high-impact local weather.
SWAPS’s main purpose is to investigate the dynamics of Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCSs) including tornadic supercells, hazardous storms and to present the model products on a daily and weekly basis.
The Severe Weather Analysis and Prediction System is tasked with forecasting the risk of severe thunderstorms, hail activities, medicanes/hurricanes, tornadoes in the Europe and USA.
